An Open Letter to the Community of Fire Island Pines
To the residents, leaders, and stewards of Fire Island Pines:
We’re Todd Olsted and Bryan Marsey—co-founders of Pines Camp Counsel, a small-scale beach concierge and rental service we intend to launch in Summer 2026.
As longtime admirers of the Pines, we are deeply committed to preserving the unique charm, spirit, and natural beauty of this community. Our goal is to offer a thoughtfully designed beach experience that supports visitors—without disrupting the flow, feel, or aesthetic of the island.
We understand and respect the concerns that can arise around new services in a close-knit, seasonal town. That’s why we intend to operate with clear intentions and community-first values:
We will never exceed a limited daily capacity or operate beyond our stated days.
We will remove all equipment daily and follow strict “Leave No Trace” principles.
We will actively seek partnerships with local businesses and community leaders—building connections that support the island’s culture and economy.
Should future services overlap with existing offerings, we will design them with care, restraint, and a commitment to complement—not compete with—both longstanding and incoming institutions.
Our aim is not to change Fire Island Pines—it’s to complement and care for what already makes it magical.
We hope to collaborate with FIPPOA, the Town of Brookhaven, local business owners, and residents to ensure that any service we offer reflects the elegance, restraint, and pride that the Pines is known for.
Thank you for your time, your stewardship, and your belief in the power of a good beach chair.
Warmly,
Todd Olsted & Bryan Marsey
